Puerto Rico: Culture, Politics, and Identity by Nancy Morris, This book uses historical gobierno puerto rico and interview data to trace the development of Puerto Rican identity in the 20th century. After gaining sovereignty over Puerto Rico from Spain in 1898, the United States undertook a sustained campaign to "Americanize" the island. The Puerto Rican Nation on the Move: Identities on the Island and in the United States by Jorge Duany, Puerto Ricans maintain a vibrant identity that bridges two very different places--the island of Puerto Rico gobierno puerto rico and the U.S. mainland.
